Acupuncture

Acupuncture is energy medicine- a way of accessing & influencing our internal biochemistry by stimulating points on the surface of the body. Seems a little far-fetched at first. I was something of a skeptic myself when I began private practice in 1995. Since then (placing more than 15,000 needles per year in my patients!) I've learned and developed many effective treatment strategies - & continue to be astonished at what can be accomplished with this ancient/modern set of therapeutic tools.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a major aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition to it's efficacy at treating particular  diseases & medical conditions- it makes use of adaptogenic herbs- to restore & maintain a dynamic balance of energies in our body, mind & spirit. The beauty of herbal prescriptions is that they can be custom -tailored to treat the individual (the person, not simply the affliction).

Cupping

In Chinese Medicine,  cupping is a therapy in which glass cups (heated with a flame to create suction) are applied to the skin to stimulate the flow of energy along acupuncture meridians. It is a bit like getting a massage- from the inside out- quite comfortable, & great for freeing up energetic restrictions (& knots) in the muscles.

Nutrition

It is  of critical importance that we provide proper nourishment for our bodies.

On a recent visit to an organic farm in Wisconsin,  I learned that in order to get the nutrional equivalent of one ear of corn grown on an American farm in the 1940's- one would have to consume 17 ears of corn grown today (& it has become very difficult to find non-GMO corn!). Nutrient depleted soil- & poor food choices have imperiled the functioning of our organs. Many of us lack proper nutrients to support our endocrine system (it is amazing that sometimes a low dose of trace minerals, for example, can make a huge difference to our  mood & well-being).
I am happy to work with you to address nutritional deficiencies that may be keeping you from the vibrant health you deserve.

"Chris Reed...takes the time to fully understand your problems and then proceeds to help you overcome them.  For example, I came to him with severe pain caused by shingles.  After one visit, he had completely eliminated the pain and I was well on my way to being cured from the scourge of that disease.  I have been a faithful patient of his for many years and always seek his counsel for my other ailments.  I am so fortunate to be in his care."   (Philip D.)

"Chris Reed at Traditional Healing Arts is one of the city's best acupuncturists and healers. His compassion combined with his knowledge makes every visit a full experience. Every time I get a treatment, I feel welcomed and deeply listened to. A session with Chris always leaves me feeling relaxed and renewed.  His understanding of which Herbal remedies to prescribe is impressive - plus it works!

I highly recommend a visit to Chris Reed to care for anything from a cold, injury, stress or a change to look better and feel great." (Zack S.-Los Feliz)

Acupressure, Massage, Bodywork

I am a big believer in the healing power of touch. I worry that this is vanishing from modern medical care. It is  challenging even to establish eye-contact with some physicians these days . Many doctors simply look at lab work or diagnostic imaging- and spend very little "hands-on" time with their patients. I often include stretching, massage & deep tissue work (when appropriate) along with  acupuncture - to strengthen the effect of treatment- & to encourage proper circulation & deep rest.
